A SUSTAINABLE INITIATIVE:

At Standerwick Land Design, our commitment to a green and blue sustainability ethos is at the core of everything we do. We firmly believe in promoting environmental stewardship and resource conservation through innovative design strategies. Embracing the interplay between the green and blue elements of our natural environment, we strive to create sustainable landscapes that not only enhance the aesthetic appeal but also contribute to the overall well-being of communities.

Sustainable Drainage Solutions

Incorporating SUD's into our designs is crucial for managing stormwater runoff responsibly. We utilize techniques such as bioswales, rain gardens, and constructed wetlands to mimic natural processes of absorption, filtration, and evapotranspiration. This approach reduces the burden on conventional drainage systems and ensures that water is effectively managed, reused, or returned to natural water bodies without compromising water quality.

Greening Urban Spaces

We recognize the vital role of green spaces in urban environments. Our designs prioritize the integration of green spaces, including parks, gardens, and green infrastructure systems like vertical gardens and living walls. These features enhance the UGF of the area, leading to improved air quality, reduced urban heat island effect, and increased biodiversity. By bringing nature into our designs, we strive to create healthier and more sustainable living environments.

Urban Greening Calculations (UGF)

Urban greening calculations are essential tools to SLD. By using UGF we can quantitatively assess the value of urban greening projects within the broader context of sustainable urban development. UGF calculations support advocating for green spaces, informing decisions, and promoting the benefits of urban greening for people and the environment. We recognise the importance of incorporating green spaces into urban areas and the need to conduct calculations to assess the impact and effectiveness of such initiatives

Biodiverse Net Gain (BNG):

We prioritize biodiverse net gain for environmental sustainability, ensuring an increase in BNG on each scheme we work on. Enhancing biodiversity and reducing negative impacts, we create habitats for flora, fauna, and pollinators. Our designs integrate native plants adapted to the local climate, creating interconnected habitats for wildlife movement and gene flow. Water management with rain gardens, green roofs, and wetlands benefits aquatic species, water quality, and reduces flooding.

Sustainable Materials and BREEAM Assessments
BREEAM rates a project based on environmental performance, including energy, water, and materials. Sustainable materials (responsibly sourced, with low carbon footprint) are essential for high ratings, They promote durability and can be recycled or repurposed. To effectively use sustainable materials, evaluate their life cycle impact, use local sources, consider their sourcing, manufacturing, transportation, and recyclability. Sustainable materials are vital for BREEAM ratings and eco-friendly buildings.

Benefits Nurtured By Nature

Transformation of urban landscapes into greener and bluer environments brings forth a multitude of benefits for both people and the planet. Accessible green and blue spaces encourage community bonding and a sense of belonging. Greenery absorbs carbon, lowering cities' carbon footprint and reducing global warming. Water bodies provide natural cooling and enhance local biodiversity, creating a balanced and sustainable urban ecosystem.

Revitalising Waterways

Blue elements enhance cities by providing recreation, transportation, and ecological regeneration. Restoring neglected or polluted water channels unlocks their potential for aesthetic and Social Value. Sustainable stormwater management practices like green infrastructure alleviate issues with aging drainage systems. Rain gardens, bioswales, and permeable pavements absorb and filter rainwater, improving water quality and reducing flood risks, maximizing urban spaces and addressing environmental concerns.

Building A Greener And Bluer Future

By bringing green and blue to urban areas through innovative design, sustainable technologies, and community involvement, cities can become vibrant, resilient spaces where humans and the environment thrive together. Integrating nature into urban landscapes is crucial for a sustainable future. With careful planning and a dedication to ecological integrity, cities can become beacons of green and blue amidst concrete, fostering a connection with nature and ensures a sustainable legacy for generations to come.
