PRINCESS ALICE HOSPICE ESHER

The site is located south of Esher Surrey in  the floodplain of the River Mole. Consequently, sustainable drainage was a key issue to address. The external works were part of an overhaul of the hospice and reprovision of beds around a central courtyard incorporating soft landscape and a glass fountain providing a sense of calm.  The building was set against a small lake which was used for site drainage and planted up with a wide variety of aquatic and submersible planting for wildlife.  The lake was shelved to support a wide variety of fish.  Proposed decking extends into the lake and was carefully sized to accommodate beds which could be wheeled out onto the deck so patients could experience outdoors in a tranquil and calm setting.
